Ugh, starting a new blog is one of my pet hates - you almost can guarentee you are talking entirely to nobody - hillarious! I'm thinking I am going to use some of my *number not disclosed for fear of appearing totally obsessive and you don't know me well enough to visit this blog ever again kind of number!* freebie stash to jazz up the place.
I'll be commenting on freebie posts with this profile - so pretty soon I know I am not alone. Hello if you have found me by reading my comments on your blog - make sure to bookmark the site as it will be up and running (with freebie finds and news) in two weeks from now. I'm just getting all the bits and bobs working first :)
To be honest, I already feel like some of my fellow freebie finders are good friends that I have never met - I always know I am onto a good freebie if I see a certain name or three - I wonder if they have blogs sometimes, so this blog serves as a meeting place and happy place that we can keep in touch, give back to the designers and also express our views on the controversial concept of Freebies.
Whether to provide freebies or not seems like an important choice to make as a designer so I aim to get to the bottom of both sides of the story and hear the designers opinions about freebies - even though you can probably tell I am a huge fan of freebies myself, not everyone feels the same way. Some of my best freebie givers are doing so at there own expense too - so I want to give back to them and perhaps run some comment competitions where we can all go and comment on a much needed blog, that could do with some warm fuzzies.
So, tell me in the comments how you feel about freebies and collecting them?
Speaking from my personal opinion, freebies open up the hobby to all kinds of people who in these financially tough times, they expose me to new designers and techniques and skill that I would not have found by myself. For those designers who are generous with freebies, there name and products are etched permanently in my lust list and whenever I do get the odd chance to buy some supplies - I beeline for them. I would also recommend them heartily to my friends and family because they just seem nicer and more friendlier than some other designers that have expensive products but never encourage anything that hasn't a price tag attached.
I know they need to be paid for their art, but isn't art something to be shared and treasured first, and making
money whilst is perfectly sensible and desirable - surely cannot be the sole reason you are creating for others?
Hmmm. I am sure there are many sides to the story - so I don't claim to have all the answers.
But we shall find out some of them!
At the end of the day, freebies are outrageously fun and yet functional treat that complements the ease and practicality of digital scrapbooking itself, which has taken off in the last few years, so now we see stunning designs and paper and glue addicts coming to the party. I think it helps the whole digi community - and that
means more people creating and that makes the world a happier (and prettier) place for us to live in.
I ADORE digital scrap-booking and freebie collecting is truly the icing on the cake - I know we get it good and I want to do my part to make sure this rare free (without strings) generosity remains for ALL OF US, and heck, our children to enjoy for many, many moons to come. I'm a newbie in digi world, so freebies allow me to have a play and get familiar with the materials and build confidence. I'll be blogging about all of those tools and would love to hear about your discoveries, great finds for freebies that help with design (photoshop resources, fonts, etc).
I'm pitching up my little home here, so in the future, our favourite digital designers and customers (that's us) have a place to strengthen our creativity - all through freebies, because it just feels so good to give - but we must make sure that the giving goes both ways.
I hope you enjoy the Freebie Fan Club - Spread the word and introduce yourself in the comments.
I will be officially opening the blog in two weeks time, with some prizes and of course FREEBIES
to make an appearance and then we begin. I can't wait to meet you all !!!

Thank you so much for the very gracious comment you posted on my website...Sprouting Seeds Studio. I just finished browsing your blog and what a wonderful idea you have. I do read each and every comment from readers/followers/fans, so please know how much I appreciate when someone takes just a moment to leave a comment, and you are right, the more comments I receive, the more inspired I am to design more collections. You are also correct in that many designers (me included!) spend money each month, in order to be able to have fresh commercial use products and licenses that we in turn can use to design with in creating freebies, so leaving comments is very important, as many times digital scrappers may not be aware at how many hours goes into making just one freebie! Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see the official opening of The Freebie Fan Club Blog!
I will most definitly pass your site along and am already a 'follower'. I absolutely LOVE freebies, and yes, I do buy whan I can. Actually, I buy a lot now. (shhh) I actually cheer when someone who has been giving away their hard work and talent starts selling it! lol They deserve to be rewarded in all ways. See you again soon!
What a fun idea!! I, too, read every comment left on my site (www.speedscraps.com) and am inspired by them to keep giving freebies! I look forward to your official launch and things to come! :D
